Free Mathematics tutorial Lessons

Mathematics tutorial lessons have been devised to help several groups of people at the secondary level in mathematics education in the age range 11 - 16+.

One group is mathematics teachers. They can use the mathematics tutorials as supplementary lessons for their classes. Another use would be as revision materials for examinations. As any teacher knows, when the examination date gets nearer time becomes more and more precious.

The teacher can print out both the questions and comprehensive solutions. The students can then work through the lesson questions, and refer to the comprehensive solution set both for help and to correct their work.

Another group are students who needs tuition, but cannot find a personal tutor for whatever reason. A student can print out each mathematical tutorial, work through the examples and then answer the questions. If the student becomes stuck, then he or she can refer to the detailed solutions.

Another group is the home schoolers. Like the students above, they can copy the examples into their notebooks, work through the questions secure in the knowledge that there are detailed solutions to help them out when they experience difficulties.

Free Fractal Wallpaper

Fractal comes from the word 'fracture'. It can be expressed as a recursive relationship, and so is ideal for computer generation. There are many free fractal generating programs available on the Internet. The two I have used generate mandelbrot, julia and flame fractals. They make interesting and colourful wallpaper.

Free ICT Activities

These activities involve the use of the spreadsheet to carry out mathematical investigations.

The activities are suitable for anyone in secondary mathematics education, particularly those in the age range 11 - 16+.

Each activity has two files which can be downloaded. The first file, in the form of a pdfTutorials in Mathematics Education - pdf format can be used on any computercontains the instructions and solutions.

The second file is in two forms, choose either one, depending on your operating system and spreadsheet application program. The first type is a prepared MS Excel® spreadsheet and the second type is in CSV format. The instructions refer to either format. It can be given to a class to work through, although help should always be available for those who find following instructions difficult.
